I've been super busy with everything that is going on this month. Almost every weekend, I either have a math competition or a piano adjudication, and it's really filling up time. I know that I shouldn't be complaining - my days are usually very flexible.
Speaking of competitions, I have noticed that comparison is key. Not only in these competitions, but in life in general. I compare myself to others. People compare themselves to me. And whether that puts me down or levels me up depends on the other person. Either way, at these recent math competitions the crowds are dominated by really smart people. So what happens when really smart people compare themselves to even smarter people? They get better and try to beat the smarter one. Or, in other cases, they lose confidence on their own abilities.
Year after year, I go to these competitions. Year after year, the same people win the top places! Why don't they go down? Because they know they can be the best. They have proven themselves that they CAN do it, and will do it every year. Sometimes this really annoys me. Since they've proven themselves, why can't they let others have a go at it? They can still be the best - just let someone else experience it. I know that every one of the top placers work really hard to get to where they are. But maybe, just maybe, give someone else a chance to experience something you get every single year?
